prosody
Prosody refers to reading with expression, so that reading sounds much like daily speech. Reading with good prosody includes, for example, appropriately "chunking" groups of words into phrases, changing pitch at the end of declarative sentences, and pausing at punctuation marks (Dowhower, 1991). Some research suggests that prosody is a meaningful component of reading, and helps to explain variation in students' reading comprehension (Kuhn & Stahl, 2003).
